Journey Through Time: Fun Tales, Cool Lessons, And A Sharper View Of The World
my childhood memory: the hummingbird's nest
When I was a little girl growing up in Trinidad and Tobago, one of my most cherished memories was discovering a tiny hummingbird's nest perfectly nestled in the most unlikely place—a small fruit tree.
The nest was a well-designed structure set among the slender branches, which seemed barely strong enough to hold it. Yet, this tiny creature had chosen to build a home for its delicate eggs there, exposed to the elements.
the discovery: a cherished memory
The nest was built low enough for me to peacefully observe the two small, white eggs it held. I was in awe of the hummingbird's skills; the nest was strong and intricately designed to protect its precious contents.
Days passed, and I checked the nest as often as I could.
The Journey of New Life: A hummingbird's First Flight
One day, I found it empty, except for half pieces of cracked open eggshells. The eggs had hatched, and two little hummingbirds had flown away. I was happy to know that the tiny birds had lived.
years later: a new chapter costa rica
Years later, as a young woman in Canada, I joined the adventure on an international group field trip to Costa Rica.
This trip was filled with many early morning walks, each offering a unique experience of the local wildlife and the natural beauty.
One such morning, excited to observe nature during the sunrise, I took a stroll through the serene paths of the eco-lodge.
The magic and whispers of morning light
The morning dew was beautiful before the sun fully rose, and the toucans were out in the treetops.
The path, lined with gardens of various leaves, bugs, and flowers, added to the serene atmosphere. Amid this natural beauty, I saw giant spider webs, one of which held a trapped creature.
Breaking free: a heartbeat in silk
At first, I assumed the spider had caught its food. But as I passed the web, I noticed the trapped creature was moving.
I cautiously leaned in closer and realized it was a small hummingbird, tangled in the spider's silk. My heart sank.

Fear for the hummingbird overshadowed my fear of the giant spider. Quickly, I detached the frightened bird from the web, holding her gently as I removed the silk wrapping her fragile body.
awakening and healing: the hummingbird's recovery
The hummingbird was still, her eyes closed, her heartbeat fast, and her breathing faint. Slowly, she opened her eyes, and I sensed her fear.
We stood quietly, her heartbeat gradually slowing. When she blinked more often and fluffed her feathers, I knew she was recovering.
I walked back to the eco-lodge, focusing entirely on her well-being. Once I knew she felt safe and ready, I set her free. She exuded gratitude, puffed up her chest, fluffed her feathers, and stretched before flying away.
reflection: a lesson in resilience
There were no crowds, no applause—just the calm surrender of knowing that a beautiful creature got to live another day.
We shared a unique moment, the hummingbird and I, something two of my other classmates who were up that early also witnessed.
Later that morning, I learnt from the lodge owner that for twenty years, they assumed spider webs could capture hummingbirds, but no one had ever witnessed it.
nature's gifts:
the inspiration behind my podcast
This encounter left me with a priceless understanding: the gift of life is precious and should not be taken for granted.
The hummingbird didn’t seek revenge against the spider; she embraced her new lease on life, flying higher, faster, and stronger.
connecting the past to the present
Now, I often think back to that resilient hummingbird. Like her, I am regaining my energy, seeing new life in everyday things, and finding inspiration in small moments of beauty and resilience.
Just over ten years ago, this experience taught me to trust in the unknown and have faith in a better future.
the birth of the light up podcast series
I started the Light Up Podcast Series to help my friends from around the world learn English and to keep my mind active and explore my creativity, something I missed doing.
Ten years ago, I had the idea of creating a podcast. At the time, I didn’t know exactly what it would be about; I just knew I wanted to share something meaningful with the world.
It took years of personal growth and exploration to find my voice and the courage to finally bring this dream to life.
And, now it has quickly evolved into my digital notebook where I share stories I enjoy writing and breathe new life into everyday experiences.

Through my podcast, I share stories of growth, inspiration, and hope—both from my own life and from around the world.
